Mark Thompson and recreation staff presented a preliminary report on the 2025 pool season and proposed fees and charges at the Feb. 17 Parks Board meeting. No formal action was required.
Staff reported nearly 15,000 more paid entries or member visits than in 2023, sold 99 more pool passes than in 2023, and increased aquatic-program revenue recovery to about 88%, a 2% rise year over year. Concessions outperformed expectations by roughly $14,000, a result staff credited in part to the use of rapid-cook ovens.
Given these trends, staff proposed keeping fees and charges flat for 2025. They said increasing fees could reduce accessibility and that resident membership purchases are a key driver of revenue. Staff also proposed adjusting pool opening days to match the school calendar (opening Saturday instead of the prior Friday when students are still in session) and recommended closing Horropp Springs Aquatic Center on Tuesday, Aug. 19 and Buckner Pool on Sunday, Aug. 24, consistent with last year’s schedule.
Board members asked staff to add the number of pool-open days to future reports and discussed gift-card or multi‑visit options for families. The board took no action; staff will return in March with final fees for publication in the activity guide.
