Mayor directs 4-inch residential plow standard; committee introduced new DPW director Todd Wilson

Natalie Van Dongen, deputy director of policy and planning for the Department of Public Works, read a statement Feb. 13 attributing a new residential snow response standard to Mayor Joe Hogsett and City-County Council President Osoley.
The statement said Mayor Hogsett instructed DPW to adopt a 4-inch standard for plowing residential streets for the remainder of the current snow season. The statement said the city and DPW will continue collaborating on a reformed snow operations and funding plan and that the new residential standard will be introduced to the community during the 2026 budget process ahead of the next winter season.
Committee members then heard remarks from Todd Wilson, introduced as the new acting director of the Department of Public Works. Wilson said Feb. 13 was his fourth day on the job; he described his background in mechanical engineering and construction management and said he worked as a construction administrator at DPW for almost 10 years. Wilson said he looks forward to returning in early March for his confirmation hearing before the committee.
Several councilors welcomed Wilson and thanked DPW staff for recent snow-removal work. One councilor noted appreciation for the new director's outreach to the council in his first days on the job. The committee did not vote on the snow standard at the Feb. 13 meeting; the statement described the mayor's instruction and an administrative change in operations for the remainder of the season.
