Committee recommends due-pass on three parking-restriction proposals affecting Speedway and west-side streets

The Indianapolis City-County Public Works Committee voted Feb. 13 to send three parking-restriction proposals to the full council with a due-pass recommendation following a Department of Public Works presentation.

Nathan Sheets of the Department of Public Works briefed the committee on three brief proposals. Proposal 64 would authorize parking restrictions on 20 First Street on both sides from Cunningham Road to Raceway Road in District 16. DPW staff said the roadway is generally one lane in each direction with occasional passing blisters; long-term parking of semi-trailers and vehicles obstructing traffic and instances of people fishing in nearby ponds prompted the request. Sheets said the Town of Speedway had already taken action on the matter.

Proposal 68 would authorize parking restrictions along the west side of Fulton Street from North Street to Walnut Street in District 13. Sheets said DPW has jurisdictional control over the thoroughfare and reviewed the requests at the town's request. A committee member noted the road segment is a minor arterial into Speedway and described visibility issues caused by trees along Eagle Creek.

Councilor Ron Gibson moved the committee to send the three parking proposals to the full council with a due-pass recommendation; the motion was seconded and the committee voted in favor. No formal amendments were made at committee; the items will appear on the full council agenda for further action.
