The Indianapolis City-County Public Works Committee on Feb. 13 voted to postpone consideration of proposal 69-20-25, an amendment to Chapter 6 21, Article 3 of the Revised Code of the Consolidated City and County, to the committee's March meeting.
Committee chair Kristen Jones moved the item and Derek Cahill seconded. Committee members voted to delay the item after staff and the new Department of Public Works director requested more time to review the proposal and prepare potential amendments.
Jones said she sought consent to move the proposal to the start of the agenda and later explained the postponement was to allow the department and the new director additional time to review and to gather questions for the March meeting. At least one councilor expressed frustration at not having the department present to answer questions tonight, noting a press release had been circulated in advance.
Councilor Ron Gibson said he supported moving the item to next month so the administration and department staff could be fully involved. The committee took a voice vote and agreed to take the item up at the March committee meeting.
The motion was procedural: committee members did not adopt any amendments or enact policy changes tonight. No formal ordinance action occurred; the item remains on the committee calendar for March, when the department is expected to appear and provide additional information.
