San Antonio commission orders demolitions, gives one property 90 days to repair after split vote

The most contested decision involved 5647 Mayo Drive, where commissioners voted 6–2 to designate the property a public nuisance that “can be repaired” and to require secured repair work within 90 days rather than immediate demolition. By contrast, the commission approved demolition orders within 30 days for 127 Ines Avenue and a multi-building site at 8503 Lake Vista and issued unanimous demolition votes on two other properties earlier in the meeting.
Why it matters: Commissioners said the actions respond to persistent structural hazards, electrical and fire risks, and illegal occupancy that present public-safety concerns and, in several cases, proximity to schools or inhabited properties. The orders direct property owners to remove or repair unsafe conditions and allow the city to pursue clearance and recover costs if owners do not comply.
