Board approves consent agenda, personnel actions, teacher contracts, work calendars and fresh-produce vendor awards

The Maricopa Unified School District governing board on Feb. 12 took several routine and programmatic actions, voting unanimously on multiple items including human‑resources approvals, teacher contract language updates, an adjustment to academic coach/work calendars and a multi‑vendor fresh‑produce award for child nutrition.

Adoption of the agenda and consent agenda The board opened by adopting the meeting agenda and later approved the consent agenda without recorded dissent. Recorded votes on routine approvals were unanimous: Shontay Rothschild, Ben Owens, Patty Cutre and President Robert Downey all voted "Aye." No individual nay, abstention or recusal was recorded for these items.

Personnel schedule (item 8A) The board discussed the personnel schedule and approved the document as presented. Motion and second were recorded on the floor and the vote was unanimous.

Teacher contracts and employee agreements (item 8B) The board approved teacher professional contracts and classified worker agreements for the 2025–26 year after the district's counsel (Udall Shumway) reviewed contract language. Counsel recommended edits in five areas, including salary mistakes, paycheck withholding, arrest or charge language, resignation language, and notice provisions for at‑will appointments. The board approved the contracts 4–0.

Academic coaches/work calendar (item 8C) Following feedback on previously approved work calendars, staff revised the TOSA/academic coach work schedule to address concerns about a 210‑day calendar. The board approved the revised schedule unanimously. Staff said teachers and coaches had input into the compromise calendar.

Multi‑vendor award for fresh produce (item 8D) The board approved a multi‑vendor award for RFP 2510312 Fresh Produce, authorizing local vendors to supply fresh produce for the district's child nutrition program. Board members praised the local procurement approach; the motion passed 4–0.

Executive session to discuss land (item 8E) The board voted to adjourn into executive session pursuant to A.R.S. a7 38‑431.01(A)(7) to discuss land matters. The motion and second passed unanimously and the board convened into executive session.

For each recorded vote during the meeting, the board members registered as voting "Aye" were: Shontay Rothschild, Ben Owens, Patty Cutre and Robert Downey. The meeting record does not show any recorded no, abstain or recusal votes on these action items.
