Matt Lemberg of the Boys and Girls Club of the Sun Corridor on Feb. 12 updated the Maricopa Unified School District governing board on the organization's partnership with the district and its local operations, including after‑school and before‑school programs at several Maricopa campuses.
Lemberg said the local organization opened in Maricopa in 2021 after planning that began in 2018. He told the board the organization currently operates seven clubs and one before‑school program across nearby communities, with two clubs in Maricopa itself. He said the Maricopa average daily attendance figure is 199 students (about 166 in after‑school programs and 33 in the before‑school program), the club has 307 registered MUSD members, and the organization has recorded 20,396 daily visits so far this 2024–25 school year.
Lemberg described milestones including single‑day attendance highs at specific sites and said the organization aims to expand teen offerings to match district growth projections. He thanked district leaders and named principals and staff who supported the partnership.
Board members and the superintendent praised the partnership and noted the club's role in serving students when school is not in session; Lemberg said the group's priorities are academic success, character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles. No board vote was required.
