Students update committee on athletics, service projects and arts programs

A group of student representatives updated the Ashland School Committee on athletics, student council activities, service projects and drama club productions on Feb. 12.
High school Student Advisory Council members reported the boys wrestling team won the Division 3 dual state championship and that the boys hockey team was positioned to make the Division 3 playoffs; spring sports registration opens and seniors are finalizing college decisions. Vanessa Thompson, identified as a high school student, said “we have a few kids already who, I think over I think over 2 dozen who have just committed to their colleges.”
Middle school student council president Cole Williams and other council members described plans to improve school climate through a buddy system, an eighth‑grade fundraiser and social‑emotional small‑group discussions. The council said it held a toy drive that collected more than 2,000 donated toys and plans a necessities drive the week of March 3 and a spring cleanup at Ashland Middle School.
Students from the middle school drama club described recent productions — including The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane and Alice in Wonderland — and said the next production will begin rehearsals after February break with performances projected for mid‑May.
Grady Clark, an eighth‑grade student and Project 351 ambassador, described a January service day at the JFK Library and an upcoming Cradles to Crowns clothing drive at the middle school that will route donations through Project 351 distribution sites.
Committee members thanked the students for their presentations and asked a few clarifying questions about timelines and community participation. The student presentations were informational and did not require committee action.
