The Town of Jackson Design Review Committee on a February meeting approved the exterior remodel of Bubba's barbecue at 11100 Flat Creek Drive, clearing changes to the storefront, canopy and cladding while placing a condition that the applicant apply a paint sample to the building for final review by the planning director.
Planner Andrew Bowen told the committee the application, filed by applicant Cornelius Kinsey (who did not attend), proposed no changes to landscaping or parking and no increase in building square footage. Bowen said the exterior work was limited to removal of a metal canopy and an entry column, reconfiguration of the storefront door, added glazing to increase transparency, new metal and horizontal siding, wood trim at the top of the facade, and a new canopy at the entry tied to Bubba's new signage and branding.
Crystal Davis, representing the applicant, presented renderings and color samples and described the primary siding color as a "smoldering red" and the connecting smokehouse siding as cedar. Committee members focused their discussion on color, materiality and screening of rooftop equipment; Davis said the design includes extending a short parapet and cedar trim to screen rooftop equipment.
After discussion about the intensity of the red finish, committee members proposed a condition requiring the applicant to apply a small paint sample on the building and notify staff so the planning director could confirm the final tone was within the committee's intent. The committee agreed to that condition and voted to approve the final design review.
The committee vote was recorded as an approval with the condition that the planning director review and approve the applied paint sample on the building before final sign-off.
The planning staff will process the required sign-permit review for signage separately and confirm LDR compliance at the permit stage; the planning director will review the in-place paint sample before construction progresses.
The committee closed the item and proceeded to other sketch-plan reviews on the agenda.
