Andrew Gale was elected chair of the Lago Vista Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee during a committee meeting, with Carolyn Daglish chosen as vice chair and Robin Burkhart reappointed secretary.
The committee took nominations and a motion to elect Gale as chair passed by vocal assent. Gale said he would serve for an initial period to help the newly composed committee get up to speed: "If if nobody else wants to do it, I'll do it," he told the group. Committee members later nominated Daglish for vice chair and reappointed Burkhart as secretary; those officer selections were also approved by vocal assent.
The new leadership will help set agendas and represent the committee to City staff and the City Council as the group works through a parks master plan review and a near-term work plan. Committee and staff members emphasized that the chair should coordinate meeting agendas with city staff and a council liaison, and should encourage broad participation from the committee in shaping priorities.
Committee members present who participated in the officer selections included Steve Becker; Don Niles; Robin Burkhart; Carolyn Daglish; Mark Douglas; Ike Koronis; and Andrew Gale. Maria Efranco was sworn in earlier in the meeting as the city secretary.
The committee agreed to continue meeting regularly and to hold additional work sessions before the City Council considers the parks master plan.
The elections were procedural and recorded by vocal assent; no roll-call vote counts were entered into the meeting record.
