Board approves personnel hires, coaches and $1.14 million construction award for two elementary schools

The Woodhaven-Brownstown School District Board of Education on Feb. 11 approved personnel recommendations, schedule B coaching assignments and a construction contract and alternates for two elementary schools, the board said during a regular meeting at the Board Office.
The board voted to approve the professional-staff employment of Alexander Brown as an early childhood teacher in special services, effective Feb. 12, 2025; the support-staff employment of Megan Bridal as a special services paraprofessional at Goodeth Elementary School, effective Feb. 12, 2025; and multiple Schedule B athletics and activities positions. The board also approved award of Bid Pack No. 8, Division 115 (acoustic ceiling and partition) and three site alternates for Bates and Goodeth elementary schools in a cumulative amount not to exceed $1,140,888 payable through bond proceeds, the administration recommended.
Board President Greathead called for motions on the personnel items. The motion to approve Alexander Brown’s professional-staff employment was made by Mrs. Berry and supported by Mr. Dobek; the board approved the motion by voice vote. The motion to approve Megan Bridal’s support-staff employment was made by Mrs. Berry and supported by Mrs. Chopak; the motion carried by voice vote. The Schedule B employments approved included assignments such as Corey Buckner (JV boys golf head coach), Kelly Hoopenbacher (JV girls soccer head coach) and others listed by administration; the motion to approve the Schedule B list was made by Mrs. Berry and supported by Mrs. Lowery and carried by voice vote.
Bond-team staff presented results from a rebid of Division 115 (metal studs, drywall/plaster and EIFS previously rebid as acoustic ceilings and partition). The administration recommended awarding Division 115 to Acoustic Ceiling and Partition for $915,500 and approving alternates: Bates Elementary walking track pavement replacement for $86,571, Bates full-depth basketball court replacement for $88,482, and Goodeth full-depth basketball court replacement for $50,335. The total of the alternates is $225,388; the cumulative recommendation of $1,140,888 was reported to remain under the overall Bid Pack No. 8 budget by $386,795. The motion to approve Bid Pack No. 8 Division 115 and the alternates was made by Mrs. Berry, supported by Mrs. Lowery, and approved by voice vote.
The meeting record shows routine earlier approvals: adoption of the agenda (motion by Berry, supported by Lowry) and approval of the consent agenda (motion by Berry, supported by Lowery).
