The Cannon County Board of Education authorized district staff to administer the districtwide biannual student survey on vaping and tobacco to eighth-, tenth- and twelfth-grade students.
A staff member explained the survey is administered every two years and provides anonymous data to the local prevention coalition; no student-identifying information is collected and the survey does not require parental permission, the staff member said. "There's no student information given. It's anonymously taken. You have no parent permission as any survey," the staff member said.
Staff said the survey began about five years ago and has produced useful feedback for prevention efforts. The board packet included survey materials and staff asked the board to authorize the administration when the time came.
Board members had no substantive questions at the meeting and moved on to other agenda items.
