On Feb. 10 the Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen authorized a $82,120 sole-source purchase from EDI for a PlimaVent exhaust ventilation system to be installed in Firehouse No. 6.
Fire Chief Selberg explained that the systems connect to apparatus as vehicles enter the bay and disconnect when they leave, drawing exhaust directly from the vehicle to prevent it from entering living areas. "We began installing these systems in our fire stations in 2021 as part of our efforts to limit cancer risk for the firefighters," Selberg said. The chief said the town is purchasing the same system already installed in other stations to maintain consistency.
A motion to approve the purchase was adopted on a roll-call vote with affirmative votes from Aldermen Jordan, Stamps, Robbins, Hall and Mayor Frasier. Staff will coordinate installation with the general contractor for Firehouse No. 6.
