City staff update council on stormwater projects, upcoming intersection and UDO public meetings

Eddie said crews have been working to clear debris behind city hall since September 27 and that the city has applied for required permits to proceed.
On traffic projects, staff said a public meeting about the Olive and Glenwood intersection will be held next Wednesday at the Kimberly Hampton Library to discuss a proposed “peanut” roundabout — an elongated two-circle configuration staff described as uncommon. During the session one staff member said the meeting would be from 4 to 6 p.m.; at a later point another person briefly referenced a 5 to 7 p.m. window. The city noted the meeting is being organized with the Department of Transportation and that Spartanburg County is also exploring a similar configuration for another intersection.
Planning staff member Mario reminded council of a public meeting on the UDO (Unified Development Ordinance) scheduled for the 20th. He said that meeting will be a joint session of the planning commission and the zoning board of appeals and that a council quorum may be present; Mario said staff do not expect the council to conduct or facilitate the meeting but encouraged councilmembers to attend and bring questions. Mario said he did not expect the UDO to be adopted that night but that additional meetings could be scheduled in March if needed.
