Council fills inland-port board seat and appoints Alversia Vincent to Civil Service Commission

Balch Springs City Council on Feb. 10 filled a vacancy on the Inland Port of Dallas County board and appointed a local resident to the Civil Service Commission.

On the inland-port vacancy the council conducted nominations from several members. After nominations and motions, Council member Garcia moved to approve the nominee named in the motion (as recorded in the minutes as "Alicia Mammoth"); the motion was seconded by Council member Whitley and was approved by a roll call vote of yes from Council members Hill, Garcia, Gabriel, Whitley, Mayor Pro Tem Miles and Council member Bridal.

The council later considered appointment to the Civil Service Commission. The council appointed Alversia Vincent to a three-year term. Council member Hill moved the appointment and Mayor Pro Tem Miles seconded; the motion passed unanimously. Vincent addressed the council before the vote and said she has served on the parks board and the charter review commission and asked to be allowed to contribute to the Civil Service Commission. Several council members thanked her for volunteering and noted she had researched the boards work before applying.
