The board approved administration’s recommendations for two principal appointments and several personnel actions during the Jan. 10 meeting.
Superintendent (presenter name in packet) recommended Shannon Nguyen, who had been serving as interim principal at Laurel, for the Laurel principal position effective Jan. 11, 2022; the contract runs through June 30, 2023 with a base salary reported in the packet. The superintendent also recommended Beth Lake for a principal role beginning July 1, 2022, with a contract through June 30, 2024 and the salary shown in the personnel packet. Both recommendations were approved by the board.
The board accepted two certified retirements: Nancy Hawkins, librarian at Franklin County High School, and Cathy Saint John, business teacher at Franklin County High School, effective at the end of the 2021–22 school year. The board also accepted resignations from agricultural teachers Cameron Fraser and Terry Hornberger effective Dec. 21, 2021.
New hires approved included Kayla Patterson as agriculture teacher at Franklin County High School and additional extracurricular sponsor assignments listed in the meeting packet. The board moved these personnel items as a block and approved them by vote.
Board members asked only clarifying questions about contract start dates and transitional responsibilities; administration noted some principals were covering duties on an interim basis until contracts began.
