Council tables decision on increasing city share in regional power project

Brigham City Council voted to table a resolution Feb. 6 that would have increased the city’s development share in a regional power-sales project from 12.3 megawatts to 14.3 megawatts.
Staff explained a prior partner (Logan City) withdrew from the larger project, creating an opportunity for Brigham City to increase its share. City staff also told the council they expect to present additional options at an upcoming meeting — including information about potential internal peak generation and other project opportunities that are currently subject to nondisclosure agreements.
Several council members said they preferred to receive the fuller staff briefing scheduled for the council’s next meeting rather than make a decision tonight. A motion to table the resolution was made and carried by roll-call vote.
Staff told the council the issue remains open and that a more detailed presentation will arrive at the next meeting to allow council members to compare alternatives before agreeing to increase the city’s contracted share of regional generation.
