Tiburon council approves Lower Main Street closure for Little League opening day

The Tiburon Town Council voted unanimously on Feb. 5 to close Lower Main Street from 4 to 9 p.m. on March 14, 2025, for the town’s Little League parade and opening-day festivities.
The closure was requested by the Little League and recommended by staff. Town staff told the council the 2023 policy limits Lower Main Street closures to six events per calendar year and reserves three of those closures for chamber-sponsored events; approving this request would leave two closures remaining under the current limit.
A Little League representative described the event’s community role and financial importance to the nonprofit. “We are a not for profit entity,” the Little League representative said, “We have usually over 300 kids; I think we’re around 311 currently.” The representative said funds raised at events such as the parade help keep registration and scholarship programs viable.
Council members spoke in support of the event as a long-running community tradition. “We love supporting this every year. It’s a great event,” said Council Member Ryan.
Council discussion addressed prior concerns about alcohol service near children. The Little League representative said organizers plan to repeat the same restricted area approach used last year to separate beer and wine sales from children’s activities.
The motion to approve the street closure passed on a roll-call vote with Council Member Fredericks, Council Member Ryan, Vice Mayor Wallner and Council Member Mary Thierault voting yes; Council Member Nick Farr was absent.
The approved closure applies only to the specified date and times; the council did not make changes to the broader closure policy at this meeting, though one council member said she intends to bring forward a proposal to reinstate Friday nights on Main Street at a future meeting.
