Oceanside details "ReBeach" pilot — 900,000 cubic yards of sand and artificial reef; Carlsbad seeks regular technical briefings

Oceanside coastal staff updated the Carlsbad Beach Preservation Commission on the city of Oceanside's ReBeach sand nourishment and retention pilot, describing a plan that pairs roughly 900,000 cubic yards of beach fill with engineered sand-retention structures — a nearshore artificial reef and back‑beach headlands — and asking for improved cross‑jurisdictional coordination with Carlsbad.

The presentation matters because the two cities share a littoral cell: changes to where and how sand is placed and retained in Oceanside could alter sediment transport and therefore affect beach width and recreation, shoreline protection and dredging needs in Carlsbad.
