Star council OKs replacement of Blake Park play structure; staff says parts are no longer available

The Star City Council on Feb. 4 approved replacement of the playground equipment at Blake Park after staff told the council the central play structure is cracked and parts are no longer available for safe repair.
City staff said the replacement is a like‑for‑like installation (no expansion of park footprint) and will be paid from the city’s general fund; park impact fees cannot be used for replacement equipment. Council members said they had received inquiries from parents and moved quickly to restore the closed play element.
Councilman Hershey made the motion to approve replacement; Councilwoman Solomonson seconded. The roll-call vote recorded Councilman Hershey, Councilman Wheelock, Councilwoman Tomlinson and Councilman Nielsen as voting aye and the motion carried.
The city said contractors are preapproved through the city procurement program for playground equipment and that construction should begin soon.
