The proclamation states that CTE programs give students academic and technical skills, certifications and practical experience to pursue postsecondary education and careers.
Why it matters: County officials said the proclamation highlights local partnerships between Comal ISD, New Braunfels ISD and the New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce that county leaders said help align education and workforce needs in the region.
County leaders praised local CTE programs during the meeting. Commissioner Crownover noted a recent recognition at Canyon Lake High School honoring a CTE teacher (Garrett Shoddy) who was chosen as a regional teacher of the year by KENS 5; she said the teacher would be featured on KENS 5 on Feb. 18. Rachel Benke, CTE director for New Braunfels ISD, and Renee Martinez, CTE director for Comal ISD, accepted the proclamation and thanked county leaders and business partners for support that they said strengthens CTE programming.
The court approved the proclamation by motion (moved by Commissioner Hogg; second by Commissioner Crownover) and adopted it by voice/hand vote. Presenters emphasized continued collaboration with business, industry and higher-education partners as important to students’ success.
