GFL updates council on Stafford curbside recycling: 3,360 bins deployed and about 114 tons reported weekly

Suzanne Habush and Michael Rucker of GFL told the council that the company delivered 3,360 recycling bins in the city of Stafford, 837 bins to the WCID area and 238 to the Stafford portion of Sugar Creek (Stafford portion only). GFL said it does not currently track household participation rates but does monitor inbound tonnage; staff reported approximately 114 tons per week from the city’s 18‑gallon recycle bins and said monthly tonnage reports can be provided to the city.
GFL offered to partner on periodic e‑waste or shredding events and said its e‑waste partner can provide certificates of destruction for electronics turned in. GFL agreed to provide the city a list of acceptable e‑waste items and to work with staff on promotion and scheduling for annual or semiannual collection events. Councilmembers and residents asked whether GFL could operate a shredding truck or coordinate a spring cleanup; GFL representatives said they have provided shredding events in the past and would resume discussions with staff and the parks committee to coordinate dates and promotion.
Residents who spoke during public comment praised the curbside recycling rollout and reported frequent use of the green recycle bins. Ray Thomas said the cardboard volume in his cul‑de‑sac remains high and called the program a “great investment.” Linda Allen noted consistent pickup and friendly drivers.
Outcome and next steps: GFL will begin including monthly tonnage figures in its reports to staff, will provide an acceptable‑items list for e‑waste collection, and will explore scheduling periodic community e‑waste/shredding events with city staff. No city vote was required; staff will coordinate follow‑up outreach and event scheduling.
