County project staff told the Lee County Board of Commissioners Monday that construction of the Lee County Athletic Park is progressing on schedule and within budget, with a projected completion in July 2025.
Project staff described the build as including four baseball fields, six multipurpose fields (two of those synthetic turf), five buildings (including two field houses), two restrooms, a maintenance building, a playground and a walking trail. Staff showed a sequence of site photos and a drone video documenting progress from late 2023 through January 2025.
According to the presentation, the baseball fields are ready pending spring sod installation; synthetic-turf fields 7–10 are nearing completion; and vertical construction on the buildings is expected to finish between February and April, followed by punch-list work. The playground delivery was scheduled for February and site prep was underway.
Project change orders approved to date total $545,493, which staff said represents approximately 1.8% of the overall project budget. The items cited included structural adjustments to wood beam foundations, rebar and concrete-strength changes, and upgraded fire-rated glazing for windows in the maintenance building. Staff said the project team has tracked change-order averages and continues to manage risk from weather and concrete work.
Commissioners asked about scheduling for public use and fields availability; staff said early spring sod work should allow activity on fields in the spring/summer season and estimated overall site completion in July 2025. The board did not take a formal vote on the update; the presentation was informational.
