The Grimes County Commissioners Court voted to place the county-owned Becker House in Anderson on the market and authorized the county attorney to prepare a request for proposals (RFP) for local brokers to submit qualifications and past sales history.
The decision came after the court returned from an executive session at 10:48 a.m. during which the court discussed agenda item 23 under Texas Government Code §551.072, which governs deliberation about real property. County Attorney Anne was directed to draft an RFP asking Grimes County realtors to describe their backgrounds and recent sales records (the court discussed soliciting sales history over a three- to five-year span).
The court also agreed to form a review committee to evaluate responses to the RFP. The committee named during the open session includes County Attorney Anne; County Judge Fouth; Commissioner Tullis (whose precinct includes the properties in Anderson); and Rodney Floyd, the county’s facilities director. Commissioner Mallett moved to approve the process; Commissioner Cox seconded the motion. The motion carried by voice vote; the transcript records the result as “motion carries” but does not provide a roll-call tally.
Court discussion, as reflected in the meeting, focused on how best to market the Becker House and which brokers would be appropriate to handle county property sales. The county attorney was asked to draft RFP language and to work with the named committee on the final wording. One commissioner specifically proposed that the RFP seek brokers’ background information and their sales experience over a set number of prior years (three or five years were discussed as options). The facilities director, Rodney Floyd, was included so the committee would have input from staff who manage county properties.
The court’s action was procedural: directing staff to solicit proposals and convene a review group. No listing agreement, sale price, broker selection, or contract award was decided during the open session. The transcript includes a voice vote in favor of the committee and RFP direction; no numeric vote count or individual nay/abstain votes are recorded in the publicly read minutes.
Separately, the court recessed and announced a special meeting at 11:00 a.m. to consider a 10-year plan for Grimes County. That item was announced at the end of the session and was not discussed during this portion of the meeting.
