Olathe council reappoints planning commissioner, approves consent agenda and amends tort liability code

The Olathe City Council on Tuesday reappointed Jeff Creighton to the Planning Commission and approved routine business items, including an amendment to the municipal code on tort liability claims.
Planning Commission Chair Wayne Janner introduced Creighton, noting Creighton's long residency in Olathe since 1984 and prior service on the Planning Commission and the Olathe Citizens Police Academy. "If we're discussing an issue and there's a question that hasn't been asked yet, I can count on Jeff to bring that to us," Janner said. Creighton told the council he appreciated the confidence and looked forward to serving another term.
The council approved the consent agenda by motion with items E, I and N pulled for separate consideration; the consent motion passed 6-0 on roll call. Item E (the hazard mitigation plan), Item I (Prairie Center Park contract), and Item N (Herald Street UV modules) were discussed and voted on separately during the meeting.
Under new business the council considered Ordinance No. 25-05, an amendment to Section 3.60.14 of the Olathe Municipal Code pertaining to general policy and tort liability claims. The ordinance had been presented previously on Jan. 21; no additional presentation was requested and the council approved the ordinance on a 6-0 roll call.
The reappointment resolution (205-10-17) was moved, seconded and approved by roll call with the council expressing appreciation for Creighton's volunteer service.
