Montville schools recognize staffer for Heimlich maneuver that saved a student

The Montville Township School District recognized Lori Palafonte of Cedar Hill Elementary for performing the Heimlich maneuver to dislodge an airway obstruction and for keeping a student safe.
Superintendent introduced Palafonte and said her "composure under the pressure and commitment to the well-being of our students exemplifies the high standards and care and professionalism that she shows."
Palafonte told the board she credited ongoing training and her team, and urged community members to learn basic lifesaving skills. "When I saw the child struggling, I didn't hesitate and jumped in what I had to do," she said, adding that continued training prepared her for the emergency.
Ending: The board formally recognized Palafonte's actions and thanked her for her service to the school community.
