Community Resources Department outlines spring programs, field closures and accessibility path timeline

The Community Resources Department updated the Community Resources Advisory Commission on field maintenance, upcoming events, and program and policy items the commission will review in coming months.
Lisa Nichols, Community Resources Director, said Clark Field is closed for reseeding through Feb. 18 and the Community Center East Lawn will be closed through March 6 for building work. Staff announced a partnership event with Alcove Beach Cities for young adults ages 12–25 at the South Park Building on March 13 from 4 to 6 p.m., which will include pizza, painting and ping-pong. Nichols said the department held a similar event late last year with approximately 60 attendees and plans quarterly events for this age group.
Staff said the LiveHermosa recreation and enrichment brochure will be available and registration will open March 3, listing spring and summer classes, camps, excursions and leagues; staff recommended residents sign up early for the Valley Park Summer Day Camp, which typically sells out. The department will bring a contract-class program review to the commission in April, informed by the spring/summer brochure, and a park-hours discussion is pending after internal staff meetings; staff said the police department, public works and city manager’s office have participated in those meetings and that best-practice research from surrounding cities has been completed.
Nichols reported the greenbelt pedestrian-accessibility path is estimated to be complete next week and staff plans a ribbon-cutting ceremony; the renaming of the greenbelt is also under consideration by a subcommittee composed of two commissioners and two council members, with a second meeting scheduled tomorrow.
The report closed with reminders about facility reservations and future agenda items. No formal action was taken; staff requested the commission’s input on the upcoming contract-class program review and park-hours discussion.
