Light My Fire presents grants and benevolent donations to Meridian Fire and regional responders

Light My Fire, a Treasure Valley nonprofit that raises funds for fire‑safety education and firefighter benevolence, presented donations and updates to the Meridian City Council on Feb. 4, 2025.

Representatives described the organization’s origin after a local household fire more than 30 years ago and credited community insurers, restorers and volunteers for sustaining the effort. The presenters said Light My Fire has donated more than $780,000 over its 30‑plus year history and that proceeds from the 2024 gala supported regional recipients including Boise Fire and the Idaho First Responders Wellness Coalition.

At the meeting the group gave Meridian Fire $10,000 for prevention and education work; the presenters said that amount will be doubled to $20,000 through a matching memorandum of understanding with the city. They also announced $13,000 to the Meridian Benevolent Fund and $2,000 to the Idaho First Responder Collaborative. Organizer comments named individual volunteers and partners, including Bob Ricketts, Sarah Morris (Ricketts & Associates), Pam Orr and Chris Burkirk.

Mayor Simison and council members thanked the nonprofit for its long‑term community support. Council members noted the event’s positive impact for residents who receive immediate help after fires and for fire‑safety education and cadet programs. The group invited council and the public to attend its annual gala on Feb. 21.

No formal council action or funding appropriation was made during the presentation; the city’s matching contribution described by presenters is governed by a memorandum of understanding and will follow any internal city procedures required for execution.
