Glenn Heights Fire Department launches free community CPR classes starting Feb. 13

Fire Chief Nick Williams told the council the department will offer a community CPR program that provides free CPR and AED training to residents at the Public Safety Center Emergency Operations Center from 6 to 9 p.m. on scheduled dates.
Williams listed class dates as February 13, April 17, June 19, August 14, October 16 and December 11, and said class size will range from about 12 to 24 attendees. He said the program “is not a card class. It's a certificate,” clarifying that the city is not issuing nationally recognized cards but will provide instruction and a certificate of completion.
To register, Williams said residents should use the fire department page on the city website under Community Risk Reduction Programs and follow the CPR link to choose dates. He said Glenn Heights residents have enrollment priority; if spaces remain about a week or two before a class, residents from neighboring cities such as DeSoto, Lancaster, Red Oak and Avila may be allowed to register. Williams said the department expects to post information on the fire department Facebook page as well.
Councilmembers asked whether first‑aid topics would be included; Williams said the department is working to add more first‑aid instruction over time, possibly including tourniquet application and bleeding control, and that Firefighter Lozcano is leading that effort. He said there is no lower age limit but minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian when on city property.
The program was presented as informational; no Council action was required.
