DeSoto — The DeSoto City Council on Feb. 4 adopted an ordinance ordering a general election for May 3, 2025, to elect mayor place 1 and council members for places 3 and 5, designate polling places and authorize a joint election agreement with the Dallas County Elections Department.
City Secretary Alicia Thomas provided calendar and filing details during the meeting: candidate packets are available from the city secretary’s office Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m., and the filing period closes at 5 p.m. on Feb. 14, 2025. Thomas said the voter registration deadline for the May election is April 3, 2025, and provided contact information for the city and Dallas County Elections for questions.
Mayor Pro Tem Leticia Hughes moved to approve the consent agenda that included the ordinance; Council Member Crystal Chisholm seconded. The ordinance was read on the record and the motion passed unanimously.
Why it matters: the ordinance formally schedules the municipal election and authorizes the city to execute a joint election agreement and services contract with Dallas County. Council members asked clarifying questions about potential runoff costs and poll locations; staff said runoff invoicing and the entity count could reduce costs and that a budget amendment might be required if a runoff occurs.
Vote: unanimous approval. The council also approved related consent items (meeting minutes and proclamations) as part of the single consent vote.
