Dallas Civil Service Board unanimously approves 2024 annual report; report to be sent to City Council

The Dallas Civil Service Board voted unanimously Feb. 4 to approve its 2024 annual report and directed staff to transmit the report to City Council.

The board reviewed the document, which summarizes hiring transactions, time-to-hire metrics and priorities for 2024. Chair Mister Chiu thanked staff for assembling the data: “I appreciate all the work you and your staff put into this, Jared, because this is an opportunity to ... explain pretty in a in a pretty easy to read format about what we do,” the chair said.

Jared told members the report required “a lot of data” and that staff will seek to make future reports more useful for council members and stakeholders. Board members highlighted the report’s recruitment metrics, including a reduced citywide time-to-hire metric cited on page 14 and a list of 2024 priorities on page 13 that the board will continue to update quarterly.

Board members used the discussion to flag recruitment goals for future planning. Board member Pam said the board should set explicit goals and track progress to support any expanded hiring targets the city may pursue. Another board member cautioned that the annual report reflects the previous year rather than projecting future hiring output.
