Several residents urged the board to reprogram mobility or canceled project funds into trail maintenance, bike‑pedestrian infrastructure and neighborhood revitalization.

Russell Bryant, a Woodbridge District resident, asked the board to reprogram roughly $3 million from a recently cancelled event center and the potential Route 28 bypass cancellation into trail maintenance, blueways and stream projects. "Community assistance, community vitality, and health is supported by maintaining trails, building new trails, and providing connectivity between our various parks and greenways," he said.

Charlie Grimes of the Gainesville District echoed that appeal and urged the board to invest in bike and pedestrian infrastructure countywide, saying the county's road‑centric development over decades has left insufficient pedestrian and bicycle capacity. "The opportunity for us to create that walkable, bikeable community that we talk about in the strategic plan is in front of you now," Grimes said.

Why it matters Speakers argued maintenance is a recurring problem because proffered trails often lack dedicated upkeep funding. They said redirecting funds from cancelled projects is an immediate opportunity to improve connectivity, support recreation, and reduce vehicle trips in short neighborhoods.
