Denton County Office of History and Culture schedules Quakertown walking tour Feb. 21

Peggy Riddle, director of the Denton County Office of History and Culture, told the Commissioners Court on Tuesday that the office will host a Quakertown walking tour on Feb. 21 at the Denton Civic Center and a tour of the African American Museum at the Denton County Historical Park.
Riddle said the tour will cover businesses that operated in Quakertown and highlight families who remain in the county. She described related outreach work the office provides to schools and community organizations, including a traveling museum presentation that she said lasts about 45 minutes to an hour.
Riddle also noted that the office maintains a history blog on the county website and referenced a new post by county staffer Erin Riddle about Alfred Tennyson Miller, identified in the meeting as the first African American Ph.D. candidate at the University of North Texas.
Riddle thanked the city of Denton for a grant that the office said will support projects this year, and she invited commissioners and community groups to request programs or school visits.
No county appropriation or formal vote on program funding was recorded at Tuesday's meeting.
