Juvenile detention staff seek PTO for weekend work; county staff says policy unchanged

Darlene Bryant, speaking on behalf of the Denton County Juvenile Detention Parent Teacher Organization, asked the Commissioners Court on Tuesday to clarify why staff do not receive paid time off for weekend days when bad weather prevents other employees from working.
"We do get the PTO from Monday through Friday, but we don't get PTO time for the weekends, and we do have to be there on the weekends as staff," Bryant said, describing the difficulty and risk staff face when traveling in bad weather.
A county representative responded that the county's policy "has not changed" and that hours not scheduled are not eligible for accrual; staff offered to discuss the concern with Bryant outside the meeting.
No change to county policy or a formal directive was made on the record during the meeting.
