Board approves maintenance and flooring contracts, adopts policy changes; scholarship policy deferred

The Millington Municipal Schools Board of Education approved three district contracts and adopted revisions to multiple board policies at its meeting.
The board voted to approve an annual mechanical/HVAC maintenance contract (estimated at $105,000), a districtwide repair services contract with ARG Construction Company, Inc. and ABES Contracting (an estimated not-to-exceed amount of $200,000 used as an annual planning figure), and a flooring contract with Kenny Floor Covering for the Millington Early Learning Academy at $106,995. Board members said funding for these contracts has been identified in the fiscal year 2025 budget and, where applicable, split across FY25 and FY26 budget lines.
Board members and staff described the scope briefly: the HVAC contract is the district27s annual maintenance agreement; the repair-services award covers multiple trades and will be used as needed (the $200,000 figure is an estimate and not the actual annual spend); and the Kenny Floor Covering contract covers tile installation in the Early Learning Academy multipurpose room, kitchen and ramp areas using a Shaw product specified with moisture testing and diamond grinding as part of installation to honor a 25-year material-and-labor warranty.
The board also approved modifications to a group of Board of Education policies (including sections noted in the agenda: 3.402, 4.502, 4.602, 0.603, 0.118 and related background-investigation language). During the discussion the board said one policy related to the new state scholarship program (sometimes referred to publicly as a voucher) was intentionally removed from the agenda and will be considered at the February work session after staff obtain the final rules and regulations; board members said the delay was to allow time to analyze the impact before taking action.
All motions listed on the agenda passed on roll-call votes with board members recorded as voting "Aye."
