Council approves slate of commission appointments

The mayor nominated: Kristen Strong to the Farmer’s Market Commission (term expiring Dec. 31, 2027); April Hernandez and Vincent O’Connor to the Historic Preservation Commission (terms expiring Dec. 31, 2025 and Dec. 31, 2025 respectively, with O’Connor filling the college seat); John Freeland to the Human Rights Commission (term expiring Dec. 31, 2027); Michelle Chamberlain to the Moscow Arts Commission (term expiring Dec. 31, 2028); and Alisa Knight to the Parks & Recreation Commission (term expiring Dec. 31, 2027). The council moved and seconded approval of the slate and recorded unanimous approval.
New appointees spoke briefly at the podium. Vincent O’Connor said he hoped to “bring my historical knowledge of, historical sites and artifacts” to the Historic Preservation Commission. April Hernandez described her background in library document preservation and said she looked forward to serving on the commission. John Freeland, the new Human Rights Commission member, said he looked forward to advocacy on mental health and protecting human rights in the city.
Vote and outcome: The slate was approved unanimously by councilmembers present.
Next steps: New members were invited to come forward to address the council; commissions will proceed with their regular duties and term dates as stated.
