The Moscow City Council on Feb. 3 retroactively approved acceptance of a $28,930.50 grant award from the Leary Firefighters Foundation to purchase extraction equipment for the fire department.
Fire department and city staff said the grant application and acceptance moved quickly after the restaurant-based grant portal and the Leary Foundation’s schedule created a short turnaround. Lisa Anderson told the council the award notification required a signed agreement within seven days while many council members were out of town, so staff signed and returned the agreement to secure the funds. Anderson asked the council to ratify the executed agreement retroactively.
Chief Brian Nickerson and staff provided background on the vendor and the quoted equipment; Anderson said the vendor Curtis would drop-ship the equipment and manage warranty issues. “We were awarded $28,930.50,” Anderson said.
Vote and outcome: The council moved and seconded retroactive acceptance and executed the grant agreement and approved it unanimously. Council members characterized the award as beneficial to the department and supported retroactive ratification.
Next steps: Staff will coordinate receipt and installation of the extraction equipment through the vendor and manage warranty processes.
