Council approves updated mutual assistance compact with Lewiston police

Police Chief Anthony Dellinger presented the compact and described the edits as minor updates to reflect leadership and address changes. “We've had a mutual assistance compact to the city of Lewiston for some years now… Minor changes, really,” Dellinger said. He listed other mutual-aid partners that support Moscow’s police operations, including Whitman County, Nez Perce County and Idaho State Police.
Why it matters: The compact formalizes interagency cooperation for incidents requiring additional personnel or specialized resources. Dellinger said the agreement has been used in recent years when Lewiston requested investigative assistance after a major officer-involved shooting; Moscow sent detectives to assist.
Vote and outcome: The motion to approve the compact passed on a roll-call-style vote with all councilmembers present voting aye. The council did not place additional conditions on the agreement.
