Danielle, a library staff member leading the website project, demonstrated the library’s redesigned website during the Los Alamos County Library Board meeting and asked the board to review it and submit feedback via a centralized form.
Danielle said the site is “getting really, really close” and that staff expect to finish structure and content work by the end of February. She said the site will link branch pages to Google Maps, integrate the library’s LibCal event calendar, and temporarily point account/log-in links to the library’s existing catalog while longer-term catalog changes are considered. Danielle asked board members and the public to click links, note broken items, and record fixes in a single tracking form so the team can manage changes efficiently.
Board members raised usability questions that could affect labeling and navigation. Michelle asked whether the site will include a monthly calendar view; Danielle confirmed the events page will be integrated with LibCal so users can view monthly programming. Several board members suggested clearer naming for the site’s e-resources area—several said “research and learning” may not be intuitive for the public and recommended renaming or adding hover explanations. Danielle said she will consider changing menu labels and noted there is a limit to the number of drop-down items, a factor driving some design decisions to keep mobile navigation simple.
Danielle also identified pages still under development, including Library of Things, spaces and services, and some placeholder content such as a business launch pad. She said staff will invite internal feedback first, then a public review. She asked board members to test the site on multiple devices and tell staff what device they used when reporting an issue. Board members agreed to circulate the public link once staff release it and to include the review request in the board’s monthly summary and social media.
The board and staff discussed how to gather public input. Danielle said she will provide a form for recording suggested fixes and will distribute access to board members; Daniel (staff) was named as the contact for volunteer inquiries. Danielle said the team will send the link to the board and to library staff for review before the public rollout.
