The Salinas Historic Resources Board voted to approve two certificate-of-appreciation templates to be used when honoring buildings and property owners. The board approved template 5 for use when a site-specific photograph is available and template 7 as a backup template when a photo is not used.
Bianca Arismendi, the city’s community outreach assistant, presented multiple certificate design options she prepared following earlier board discussion and feedback. Arismendi said the templates were adjusted to include a golden seal and the city logo as requested by board members.
Board discussion centered on the practical need to finalize a template so staff can produce certificates in a timely way, while preserving the option to substitute site-specific photos when available. Several members said they preferred a version that allowed a building photograph inside a circle and also identified a colorful combined commercial/residential option as a versatile default.
Board member (mover not specified) moved to approve templates 5 and 7; Commissioner Jefferson Shin seconded the motion. On a roll call vote, Commissioners Wadsworth, Shim, Callender, Mazaguei and Chair Larry Hirihara voted yes; the motion passed. The board also discussed logistical next steps for staff to circulate the selected templates in color for final use.
The board briefly noted an appointment change: a board member referred to Sal as not reappointed by the council and two vacancies now exist (Districts 1 and 6), but the votes on the certificate templates proceeded with the full present membership.
