The Local Alcoholic Beverage Board of Marion County on Feb. 3 granted a one-year renewal to The Zone (address and license RR 4928625) after hearing that the business had entered a compliance relationship with excise and made operational changes following enforcement actions.

The board can use renewal timing and ongoing monitoring to press operators for corrective action; a one-year renewal with active monitoring lets the board reassess if new incidents occur.
At the hearing Clark Kirkman (counsel) and owner representatives described the steps taken since the enforcement: a near-complete turnover of implicated staff, a documented banned-persons list, regular camera monitoring, changes to security staffing and an ongoing relationship with IMPD and excise staff. Kirkman told the board the business had been in the PACE compliance program for about 10 months and had not received additional violations during that period.
Board members said the documented corrective work and the absence of new violations weighed in favor of renewal but left the board uncomfortable with an open-ended approval. The board therefore approved the renewal for one year, conditioned on continued compliance and excise monitoring. Excise will continue periodic inspections and report back to the board if new incidents arise.
Applicant next steps: The owners must continue PACE participation, maintain updated banned-persons records and cooperate with excise and IMPD. The board will review compliance at or before the one-year date.
