Board member Amy moved to approve the superintendent's recommendation that Carrie Buchanan be hired as executive director of learning pathways; Board member Liza seconded the motion. The board chair then called the roll by name for a voice vote: Pepe, Jesse, Liza, Amy, Rebecca and Sarah each voted “aye.” The board chair said the motion passed unanimously.
The board had entered closed session earlier under General Statute 143-318.11 and General Statute 115C-319 through 321 to discuss privileged personnel matters and attorney-client privileged matters. The board reconvened in open session and took the vote to approve the superintendent's recommendation.
Board members and meeting staff declined to describe the specific responsibilities of the executive director of learning pathways during the open session, saying it would be communicated through a press release. The chair noted that the discussion of personnel occurred in closed session and therefore the board would release details through its communications office.
