Council members described widespread community concern about the median plan and urged SCDOT to scale down the proposal or consider alternatives after receiving additional public input. Several council members said the prior public hearing, which they said occurred in November near the election period, did not attract broad community engagement and that a reprise at a less politicized time would help SCDOT and the town gather fuller feedback.
Council members also suggested the town could help SCDOT prioritize other roadway maintenance items—such as drainage and safety‑critical repairs—if the agency could redirect attention or funding to projects more immediately impactful for resident safety and mobility.
A motion to approve the resolution passed unanimously; council members said they would forward the resolution to state representatives and SCDOT.
