Onslow County Parks & Recreation to hold Black History ‘Rhythm of Resilience’ celebration Feb. 23 at Northside High

Laquisha Cadwalader, of the Onslow County Park and Recreation Department, said doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the program will run approximately 5–8:30 p.m. The event will feature performances from Bill Ford Elementary School’s step team and chorus, White Oak Drumline, a band from Raleigh (the Throwback Collaboration Band), and a speed painter traveling from Florida who completes live paintings in under 10 minutes. Cadwalader said the celebration will also include awards honoring local African American professionals, and remarks from Chairman Foster.
Cadwalader credited the North Carolina Arts Council with supporting the event and said staff from athletics, finance, administration and the department director were helping to stage the celebration. “We just keep growing and growing and growing, so we have to change venues,” she said of the move to Northside High School’s auditorium.
