Board approves $5 million NYSERDA grant amendment to add geothermal to Twin Towers project

The Board of Education on Jan. 16 approved an amendment to the district's Twin Towers project contract to accept a $5,000,000 New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) grant to fund geothermal installation. The item was part of the financial memorandum (14D) and passed by voice vote, recorded as 7-0.
District staff member Mr. Tuttle summarized the NYSERDA awards: "Back when we started with the Twin Towers project... we applied for a NYSERDA grant. And the first track, we were awarded $4,000,000 and then, their track 2 came out. We applied for that and we received another million dollars," he said, describing the combined $5 million award. Tuttle told the board the action on Jan. 16 amends the original contract and extends the contract timeline until the project is complete.
Board members voted without further discussion. The vote was recorded as unanimous (7 yes, 0 no). The motion was moved by Mitchell Williams and seconded by Ms. Romero, as recorded in the meeting minutes.
