Sussex County approves application for $1.71 million area plan grant to support senior services in 2025

The Sussex County Board of County Commissioners on Dec. 11 authorized the county to submit the Area Plan Grant Agreement to the New Jersey Department of Human Services Division of Aging Services for $1,710,285 to fund social and nutrition services for older adults in 2025.
Deputy Director Carney moved to approve the submission and Commissioner Schick seconded; the board approved the motion by roll call with all five recorded votes in favor. The grant period covered in the authorization runs Jan. 1, 2025 through Dec. 31, 2025 and is intended to support services delivered under the Older Americans Act, including Meals on Wheels, congregate nutrition sites, legal assistance and home services, the county said.
County staff told commissioners the state released the plan late this year — usually issued around August — and the county is requesting authorization so the application can be submitted and accepted by the state. The board’s vote authorizes county officials to submit the grant agreement and accept the funds if awarded.
Commissioners emphasized that the funding is central to the Division of Senior Services’ operations and encouraged timely submission to meet the state’s schedule.
The motion recorded Deputy Director Carney, Commissioner DeGroot, Commissioner Hayden, Commissioner Schick and Director Space as voting yes.
