The Sussex County Board of County Commissioners on Dec. 11 adopted Capital Ordinance 24-9, appropriating $6,552,455 from grants received or expected from the New Jersey Department of Transportation for various roads and bridge improvements.
The board opened a public hearing on the ordinance and, with no members of the public present to speak, closed the hearing. A motion to finally adopt the ordinance passed on a roll-call vote; Deputy Director Carney, Commissioner DeGroot, Commissioner Hayden, Commissioner Schick and Director Space were recorded as voting yes.
The ordinance was introduced Nov. 26 and advertised in the New Jersey Herald on Nov. 29 with notice of the Dec. 11 public hearing. The measure directs NJDOT grant funds to specified county road and bridge projects; the adopted resolution also authorized the clerk to advertise the final adoption and post the resolution in the county administrative center lobby.
No public testimony was received during the hearing. Commissioners did not propose amendments at the Dec. 11 meeting. The board recorded the formal adoption by roll call and instructed the clerk to publish the final action as required by notice provisions in the county’s meeting procedures.
The county did not detail project-by-project allocations during the meeting. The ordinance text introduced in November and advertised with the public hearing notice was cited as the funding source for the improvements and the appropriation amount.
