Bannock County approves trespass notice banning man from courthouse after threats to judges

Bannock County commissioners voted to approve a trespass notice barring an individual from the courthouse campus after Corporal Jen Warner, a court marshal, described a pattern of threats and aggressive attempts to contact judges.
Corporal Jen Warner told the board the individual had made a verbal threat in open court about a judge and had, in a separate incident, threatened officers and tried to contact a judge before courthouse hours. Warner said courthouse staff have been keeping video surveillance and maintaining contact with judges to monitor the individual's activity. “He had made it on the record during court, that he was going to go up and take care of judge,” Warner said while outlining the investigation and the concern for judicial safety.
Warner requested the trespass notice to ensure the safety of judges on the courthouse campus while the individual's mental stability and next steps are evaluated. Commissioners moved to approve the trespass notice as requested; the motion passed by voice vote with commissioners answering “aye.”
