Aransas Pass recognizes officers, dispatcher and public‑works crews for lifesaving, exceptional duty and emergency repairs

The Aransas Pass City Council opened its meeting with several recognitions, presenting lifesaving and commendation awards to four police officers, an exceptional duty award to a communications officer, and public‑works recognition for crews who worked extended shifts during recent utility emergencies.

City officials said the lifesaving awards honored the actions of officers (now Corporal) Thomas, Officer Brown, Officer Moreno and Officer O’Brien for their July 13 response to a welfare check that developed into a medical emergency. According to remarks from the police chief, the officers forced entry when they determined the situation required medical intervention, delivered tourniquet and other aid and helped get the resident medical attention.

The chief also surprised John — a communications officer who also performs IT backup duties — with an exceptional duty award for sustained, above‑and‑beyond service, calling him the department’s radio and IT go‑to person.

The council also recognized multiple public‑works employees by name for sustained emergency repairs in cold weather, including long shifts and work on water infrastructure; staff read the roster of employees being honored during the meeting.

Separately, Fire Chief Mike Neweyar, who said he has served as chief about three months, announced that the fire department will hold public town‑hall meetings at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Wednesday in the Civic Center Nature Trail Room to gather input and help develop a strategic plan. He encouraged residents to take an online six‑question survey posted on the city and department social‑media sites.

The council offered brief applause and formal recognition during the meeting; no votes were required for the awards and proclamations.
