Lexington 1 honors students, coaches and administrators at Jan. 28 meeting
Summary
The district recognized multiple student and staff achievements including state choir selections, a state cheerleading championship and a presidential award for a Whittenail High School teacher. Pleasant Hill Middle assistant principal Ashley Fouty received a statewide assistant-principal award.
Lexington County School District One used its Jan. 28 meeting to honor students, teams and staff across the district.
Student recognitions included elementary students selected for the South Carolina Elementary Honor Choir from Centerville, Lexington, Meadow Glen and Midway elementary schools. The Lexington High varsity cheerleading team — represented by senior members and coaches — was recognized for winning the Class 5A Division I competitive cheerleading championship in November, the district said; the team scored 331 and the sport’s program recorded its eighth state championship since 1991.
Teacher and staff recognitions included: Dr. Susan Scott of Whittenail High School, who received a Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) and a $10,000 award administered by the National Science Foundation; and Ashley Fouty, assistant principal at Pleasant Hill Middle School, who was named South Carolina Middle Level Assistant Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators.
Administrators announced program highlights as well: River Bluff High School was noted for a district-wide “unified” inclusion effort and a national recognition for its unified programs; Pleasant Hill Middle and other schools highlighted student productions and cultural events.
The board also read and renewed an ethics pledge for trustees and accepted short student video responses describing what school board members do.
The recognitions were presented during the meeting’s honors and achievements segment; no action was required.
